In today’s increasingly connected world where more and more people are working from home, it is important to have a home office that is both practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. It also needs to meet your current office needs while anticipating your future office needs. That’s why it’s important to hire an office furniture designer that can plan for your current office needs and anticipate your future office needs. If the office planner can’t anticipate your future office needs, it could result in having to upgrade your office more frequently than you’d like which could increase your overhead, impact your productivity and negatively affect your bottom line.
Productive Layout
Every office needs a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing layout to facilitate productivity. If you print a lot of documents but the printer is across the room, that’s a lot of wasted time spent running back and forth to the printer.
There also needs to be a clear path to the desk and enough space to move around and feel comfortable in the space. An uncomfortable or cramped office affects morale and hinders productivity. It can also cause feelings of anxiety and discontent which also affects productivity.
Lastly, everything that is regularly used such as computers, printers, typewriters, pencils, pens, portfolios, paper and file cabinets as well as books and other research documents need to be within arms’ reach. This decreases the time spent grabbing items and documents and increases productivity.
An office furniture planner should have all of this in mind when they arrive to redo your office. An office and the environment of the office needs to facilitate work and productivity and make it easy to work and be productive.
Current Needs
The office planner also needs to take into consideration your current needs. Sometimes the equipment in an office is so outdated that it needs to be replaced or upgraded in order to improve productivity. For instance, if you spend a lot of time online and a lot of time using various other programs and multitasking, it might be advantageous to purchase a computer that has the capacity to run two monitors at the same time in order to reduce the time spent flipping through various applications and increase productivity.
Office desks also need to be large enough to accomplish multiple tasks such as working on the computer, writing and organizing paper documents. If your office is old and you’re still using the same small desk you started with, it might be time to get a new larger desk or multiple desks in order to accommodate your increased workload. The office planner needs to know how much work you accomplish per day and everything you have to have on your desk. That will help them determine the right size desk or desks to purchase for your office.
Office chairs also need to have the appropriate rating for the time you spend at your desk. If the chair is only rated for moderate use and you sit at your desk eight to 10 hours a day five days a week, a new office chair rated for heavy use might be in order.
Future Needs
The office planner should also take into consideration your future needs and business growth when they redesign your office. That means purchasing those future upgrades now instead of later. By purchasing for expansion, you are saving yourself future time and money on multiple future office remodels and equipment upgrades. The office planner that you hire needs to take your short and long term goals into consideration when they help you redesign your office, and they should ask you about your future goals before they start remodeling.
In other words, a skilled office planner needs to make sure your layout is productive and talk to you about your current and future office needs. Once they have all the answers, they need to take them into consideration when redesigning your office space.
