Sometimes you just know need a change and your bedroom is a prime space to reorganise or redecorate.

Even if you are generally a tidy person, this space can end up looking a little tired and old. This is not good news for you, since it is the sight that greets you every morning and the last thing you see before you go to sleep. If you are quite a messy home-owner, then this is the first thing you can work on to make your room feel nicer.

What you should be thinking about is how you can freshen the place up without too much effort – giving your bedroom a new lease of life to help you maintain a positive outlook on life. How much effort you go to is up to you, but there is plenty of choice with regards to what you can do.

Arguably the most obvious way of adding sparkle to you room is to give the walls and ceiling a fresh lick of paint – it’s odd how little you notice the old coat getting gradually duller until you compare it to newly painted bits.

Blinds

Another approach to giving your room a fresher aesthetic is to introduce more clean, shining surfaces. For example, you can replace carpet with floorboards, curtains with wooden blinds and old wardrobes with slick, new replacements. You are essentially creating more surfaces for light to bounce off of, which creates a really great ambiance particularly when combined with lots of natural light.

Colours can also be used to good effect if you want to lighten the mood in your bedroom. If you cannot afford to buy new furniture or bed linen, then try painting an existing item. Another trick that helps in these situations is to sand down the outside of wooden furniture, which will then have the ‘distressed’ look that is used so effectively by designers.
